Elections

City Elections

All elections shall be held in accordance with the laws of the State of Texas regulating the holding of municipal elections and in accordance with the ordinances adopted by the city council for the conduct thereof. City elections are held the second Saturday in May.

Qualifications

Under the Edna City Charter; qualifications at the time of election, the mayor and each council member shall be a qualified voter of the city, shall have resided in the city and in his district at least one year immediately preceding his election, and shall hold no other elective public office, appointive city office, nor be an employee of the city. Any person having these qualifications and who is not indebted to the city, shall have the right to file an application in writing.

Members of the council must resign before seeking another public office unless the election is held at the expiration of his term. If the mayor or council member shall cease to possess any of the above mentioned qualifications or be convicted of a felony, his office shall immediately become vacant. The council shall consist of a mayor and five council members who shall be elected in the manner provided by City Charter to serve for a term of two years or until their successors have been elected and have qualified. The terms of office of three council positions shall be staggered one year from those of the mayor and the other two positions.

2024 Elections

The next general election is scheduled for Saturday, May 4, 2024. District 3-5 will be up for election. Applications for a place on the ballot will be available at City Hall 126 W. Main Edna, Texas and can be submitted to the City Secretary's Office.
