The Street Department maintains the city streets to promote safe traffic flow. The Street Department staff ensures that the city residents and visitors have safe, clear, and continued access throughout the city. They enhance the appearance and image of the city and protect the city's substantial capital investment in street scape.

City-owned sidewalks and easements are monitored and maintained to eliminate hazards and to ensure the safety of residents using the sidewalks or living near the easements.

The Street Department installs and maintains traffic control signage in accordance with city, state, and federal regulations as prescribed by adopted traffic control specifications. Additional responsibilities of the department include the removal of visual blight within the public right of way and safe operation of the city's street sweeping machine.
