The Edna City Council approved hiring a contractor to begin work on Brackenridge Street, Division Street, and Miracle Drive during Thursday’s city council meeting.

 

Council members approved the recommendation of J&R Contracting Services, Inc., of Victoria to complete Phase 2 of the 2024 CO project. J&R Contracting bid $4.432 million for the roadway, drainage, and water improvements for the three streets.

 

In addition, council members approved closing Main Street from 2:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Sat., Dec. 6 for the Market Day on Main Street and the annual Christmas Parade.

 

In other business, council members:

·      Approved the minutes of the Oct. 16, 2025 meeting;

·      Heard public comments;

·      Passed on Resolution #2025-09, which would have authorized the Police Department to submit an application for the Bullet-Resistant Components for Law Enforcement Vehicles;

·      Approved an agreement with Darla Heath to do administrative service for the grants that are awarded to the Police Department as long as the administration fee is paid through the grants;

·      Approved an interlocal agreement with Jackson County;

·      Approved granting the deed to Jackson County ESD #3 for additional land to the back of the fire station;

·      Held a public hearing for an application for platting a 12.278-acre tract of property at 919 Vanderbilt Road in the John York ¼ League, Abstract No. 280 to the City of Edna, Jackson County, TX according to the establishment map and plat of said addition of record in Vol. 2, page 100, of the map and plat records of Jackson County, TX;

·      Approved the platting of the 12.278-acre tract to be used for 15 duplexes housing up to 30 families;

·      Approved the lease of a pickup truck for the Street Supervisor;

·      Took no action on the draft of the City of Edna Comprehensive Plan and Zoning Ordinance;

·      Approved payment of current city bills; and

·      Heard reports from city staff.
