Sewer work along Division Street near Allen Street

Edna residents who live along or frequently use Brackenridge Street, Division Street, and Miracle Drive should expect construction to begin sometime in January to upgrade the roadways, drainage, and water lines.

The $4.432 million Phase 2 of the 2024 CO project is being funded through certificates of obligation. Currently, sewer lines are being replaced in all three streets as Phase 1.

During its meeting on Nov. 13, the Edna City Council approved J&R Contracting of Victoria to handle Phase 2, with sub-contractor Clark Construction of Victoria slated to do the paving. Clark already has worked with the City of Edna during a paving project on the north side of the city.

Phase 2 will replace the water lines and storm drains, increase the storm drain size, add curbing where needed, and re-do the pavement on all three streets. The underground work will be completed before the street surfaces are re-done.

“On Division Street, one of the goals is to alleviate the ponding of water there at Division and Wells Street,” Broz said. “That has been there since I can remember, like everyone else. We’ve upgraded the pipe for that.”

Fox Glove Drive will also be affected by construction as new drainage pipe for Miracle Drive is expected to run from Miracle down Fox Glove to Vanderbilt Road, Broz said, meaning that Fox Glove also will be re-done.

Residents will be notified prior to work beginning, Broz said.

While work is expected to begin in January 2026 for Brackenridge and Division, work will be delayed on Miracle until school is out, Broz said, to avoid interfering with daily school traffic. Plans call for Miracle Drive to be concreted around the bus barn area to better handle the wear and tear from bus traffic, he said.

Upon completion of each street, a final top coating of Onyx will be laid to act as a sealant or binding agent to extend the life of the paving, Broz said.

“This is a wonderful project that is well-needed and hopefully will make the streets of Edna better,” Broz said, adding, “We’re just excited to get something going.”
