Street crews install new stop sign

Edna Street Department crews are wrapping up this year’s sign replacement project.

 

Street Supervisor Andy Brzozowski’s five employees have been replacing old stop signs with new larger ones mounted onto breakaway poles. The signs that are being replaced according to the newest TxDOT standards.

 

In addition, the Street Department also has been replacing street name signs at each intersection.

 

The crews have installed 78 signs at an average cost of $346.15 each this year. The city was able to order the signs from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, with the poles and hardware sourced elsewhere.

 

Sign locations include Mexico Street at the northbound and southbound frontage roads, Cedar Street, and M.L.K. Street; Harlem Street at M.L.K. and at Cedar; Roosevelt Street at Cedar and at M.L.K.; Peabody Street at Third Street and at Cedar; Harris Street at Cedar, Fourth Street, Third Street, and M.L.K.; Erie Street at M.L.K., Cedar, and Sayles; Carver Street at Sayles and at M.L.K.; N. Kleas Street at E. Main and at BlackJack; E. Elm Street at N. Wells and at Menefee; Alley at N. Kleas; E. Cypress Street at N. Wells and at N. Kleas; E. Cedar Street at N. Wells, N. Kleas, and Peabody; Fourth Street at Mexico, Harlem, Roosevelt, Peabody, and Erie; Third Street at Erie, Roosevelt, Harlem, and Mexico; M.L.K. at C.R. 4082, Roosevelt, Peabody, Erie, Carver, and N. Kleas; Staford Street at Carver, Erie, and Harris; Sayles Street at Harris; BlackJack Street at N. Kleas; and Bois D’Arc Street at N. Wells and at N. East Street.

 

Brzozowski said the program will resume in the next fiscal year, with crews replacing as many worn out signs as next year’s budget will allow.
